THE VISION BEHIND ALTSINGAPORE

A. WHAT IS ALTERNATIVE IN A SINGAPOREAN CONTEXT?

- Places: Hard-to-get to destinations; Pop Up Stores; Mom & Pop Stores; Heartlands; Modern & Postmodern Architecture; Studies on Urban Environment
- People (Talent & Skill): Makers of Singapore; Artists/Filmmakers and their Works; Passion Projects; Entrepreneurship; Sub-Cultures
- Productions: Exhibitions; Events, Outdoor Activities 
- Past: Nostalgia; Tradition Seen from a Modern Perspective.

Last but not least, having an "Alternative" is about the availability of possibilities and choices in Singapore.

B. MISSION STATEMENT

  1. Encourage people who live in Singapore to get up and explore areas, events and activities that lie beyond Orchard Road and MBS etc.
  2. Highlight Singapore-based talent. Of Singaporeans OR people influenced by Singapore OR people who have lived in Singapore for a time OR taking place in Singapore

  3. Function as an aggregator of happenings and perspectives: we bring together all the information out there for easy user access and our content reaches our community quickly and concisely.

  4. Introduce a different way of looking, through announcements, words and images. We provide a positive perspective of looking at Singapore whilst never deriding ignorance.
  5. Bring together the “alt” community. This might include working with anyone that we think might broaden the activity options available to those who live in Singapore. We must feel free to experiment, but also feel free to walk away from a project when we think it might compromise our standing as an alternative community-centered project.

C. WHAT WE ARE NOT

We are not an extensive reviewer of places. There are dedicated publications with full time employees who work on generating content. Most of our posts will be short but hopefully illuminating.
